Making my own sheet mask solutions has become my new obsession! The possibilities are endless and sheet masking is such a lovely way to pamper your skin! Plus, I love when I can save money and make a beautiful product on my own. Today, I am sharing a DIY cucumber hyaluronic acid sheet mask that is simple to make and will leave your skin feeling silky and plump!
I wrote a post recently covering everything you could ever want to know about sheet masks. I covered their many benefits as well as loads of ingredient suggestions to formulate your own liquid. You’ll want to read that post if you’re wondering what the hype is on the sheet mask excitement!
I also reviewed 100 Percent Pure’s 5 different sheet masks as well if DIYing isn’t your thing.
Have you ever made hyaluronic acid? Stop-don’t X out just yet-making a hyaluronic acid serum is one of the easiest DIYs you can do. With only three ingredients, you can whip up your own serum in seconds.
It is a lovely additive to this sheet mask but it can also be used as a daily serum for added hydration and smoothness.
Check out my Wrinkle Defense Hyaluronic Acid Serum recipe. It’s one of my most popular recipes that I also offer in my Etsy shop.

Benefits of Hyaluronic Acid:
Hyaluronic acid is actually a natural substance that is already found in our bodies. As with collagen, the younger our skin is, the more hyaluronic acid our skin has. And to put it quite simply-the most radiant and young looking skin contains ample amounts of water. According to several studies, hyaluronic acid plumps fine lines and wrinkles and also improves the skin’s elasticity.
Increase your skin’s water content and you will be restoring the youthfulness of your skin.
Hyaluronic acid is a humectant. This means it draws in water and holds on to it. HA can hold 1000x it’s weight in water.
- Plumps fine lines and wrinkles!
- Repairs the barrier of our skin.
- Eradicates free-radical damage.
- Smooths and softens skin.
- Increases elasticity!
- Heals damaged tissue.
- Protects from UV rays.
Benefits of Cucumbers:
Cucumbers have anti-inflammatory properties and are loaded with antioxidants and nutrients like vitamin C and folic acid. Vitamin C helps stimulate collagen and new cell growth. Folic acid helps protect against environmental toxins that can prematurely age your skin. Together, folic acid and vitamin C make cucumbers an effective anti aging tool.
Studies have shown that cucumbers have the ability to reduce swelling and puffiness of the skin.
According to a 2011 study, the antioxidant components in cucumbers may make it a potentially effective anti-wrinkle ingredient.
The cooling and anti-inflammatory effect of cucumbers can help ease swelling from bug bites, soothe skin after a sunburn and calm irritation from rashes.
Cucumbers are 96% water. Water isn’t enough to hydrate and moisturize the skin but when combined with other ingredients like Aloe Vera, yogurt, oats, oils and essential oils, cucumbers can help replenish the overall moisture content in the skin.
First make hyaluronic acid:
- 1/2 cup distilled water or hydrosol
- 1/4 tsp. leucidal liquid (preservative)
- 1/4 tsp. hyaluronic acid powder
- Refrigerate for 12 hours
Next, puree cucumbers:
I’ve found the best way to get fresh cucumber juice is to add a chopped up slice or 2 of cucumber to your coffee grinder. If you’re a juicer, use your juicer to get cucumber juice with less pulp. I’m not sure if coffee grinders were made to handle wet ingredients so I quickly dry mine out once I’m done.
**If you’d prefer to skip fresh cucumber juice why not try a cucumber hydrosol? Using a hydrosol will not be as potent but it will allow you to keep this solution longer and re use.
DIY Cucumber Hyaluronic Acid Sheet Mask Recipe:
- 1/2 TBSP. Hyaluronic Acid
- 1/2 TBSP. pureed cucumber or cucumber hydrosol
- 1/2 tsp. Glycerin (find it HERE)
Amazon has sheet masks for DIY purposes. They come in a pack of 100 for $10. Find dry sheet masks HERE.
- Cleanse your skin.
- Add all ingredients in a bowl and stir.
- Submerge your sheet mask in the liquid.
- Gently ring out excess liquid and apply evenly to your skin.
- Leave sheet mask on for no longer than 20 minutes.
- If you’ve used fresh cucumber juice you will want to rinse your face with cool water. If you used hydrosol do not rinse your skin.
- Apply a toner and moisturizer.
Now that you can make DIY sheet mask solutions at home, feel free to go nuts! LOL. Sheet masks are mainly meant to restore hydration. Some do definitely contain anti aging action as well as skin clearing action but for the most part, sheet masks are gentle and can be used often.
I hope you’ve enjoyed this fun sheet mask recipe. I have so many more recipes to share so stay tuned!
Oh my goodness Jennifer this is amazing! Thank you so much for sharing this! I recently came across a french You Tuber who indicated that one of the secrets to french women’s amazing skin is daily sheet masks. I’ve been buying the Masque Bar hyaluronic face masks the last week and absolutely love how they provide the additional moisture but certainly a great expense to continue paying for the masks! I’m hoping I can find the ingredients online today.
By using the sheet mask how much more effective do you think it is than just applying the mixture directly on the face?
Kay-Thank you! I love using sheet masks! I think they are so lovely and effective! I believe a sheet mask is a bit more effective because the sheet acts as a protection, locking in more moisture-it’s almost like a greenhouse effect. That is only my thought-it might be totally not true but there’s just something about a sheet mask that feels way more effective.
Do you know if there are any organic cotton or bamboo face mask sheets available? Cotton is a crop that is heavily sprayed with pesticides…don’t really want to be putting THAT on my face!
I looked through Amazon, but could only find the regular cotton gauze…
I wonder if I could find organic cotton gauze fabric and cut my own….hmmmmmm
Carol-I don’t-I looked and looked and there’s got to be some somewhere but I was never able to source them. I will keep trying though. I don’t love using the ones I linked.
