Finding the perfect lip gloss and lipstick is paramount, am I right? How many times have you bought a lip gloss and it ends up being the wrong shade, too light, or no staying power? For me it’s often. To be honest I’m always compromising my “beauty values” for lip products. I know all the chemicals that are in most lipsticks but yet I still give in when I think I’ve found just the right color.
Let me just say, compromising on quality when it comes to lip products is really a bad idea. Studies have shown that women who wear lipstick regularly swallow about a pound of lipstick a year! This is alarming when you think of it in terms of harmful chemicals. It’s not just entering our blood stream like other types of beauty products. We are actually swallowing it into our digestive system.
There are several make up companies emerging that are making products that are very natural and safe. The problem is, most of these companies are extremely overpriced and/or hard to find.
The thing about make up is that many of us wear it daily. When someone asks me where they should start when ridding out chemicals in their products, I always say to start with the products you use the most. Lipstick and gloss is something we apply 1-10 times a day! And as stated above, we are involuntarily eating it. It’s the first product that should be remedied, in my opinion.
Tarte Cosmetics are formulated without parabens, mineral oil, phthalates, sodium lauryl sulfate, triclosan, synthetic fragrances and gluten. While Tarte is not the most natural makeup line, they are much further ahead that most. Tarte believes in “healthy, eco-chic beauty, offering cruelty-free cosmetics infused with superfruit and plant extracts, vitamins, minerals, essential oils and other naturally-derived ingredients.”
As you can see, I’ve gone nuts purchasing lip glosses and lipsticks from Tarte! I am in love with every shade I’ve bought online. I am incredibly picky when it comes to lip colors and I am so pleasantly surprised with all the products I’ve used from Tarte. The colors are rich and pigmented and the last quite a long time. The lipsticks taste good. They don’t have that strange waxy taste most lipsticks have. There is a slight hint of mint and nothing else. The glosses are incredibly long lasting and have great hues to them. Some are subtle while others have more color. None of them look garish or feel anything but smooth and thick.
Tarte’s Butter Lipstick contain:
“cupuacu butter: rich in essential fatty acids and sterols that help firm while drenching lips in moisture; murumuru butter: rich in essential fatty acids and ProVitamin A to help restore elasticity and soothe lips; shea butter: a natural skin emollient that helps retain skin elasticity & protects against degeneration; mineral pigments: soothe and soften lips.”
Sounds amazing doesn’t it?! They so are!
I have refrained from doing many make up product reviews because quite honestly I have not liked the natural products I’ve tried-or I have not been willing to spend an arm and a leg for them. Tarte, while is not drug store cheap, have reasonable prices for high quality products.
xx, Jenni

I purchased the tarte lipstick. The colors are pretty but it doesn’t stay on at all. By 30 minutes I need to reapply. Is there anything you do to keep the color on with these?
The best thing you can do to help keep color on your lips is use a liner. I agree-the Tarte lipstick is wonderful but doesn’t stay put for long-have you tried their lip surgence? I put that on underneath and it seems to really help.
