My Winter Skin Care Routine…

Eminence Age Corrective Moisturizer

As we age, keeping skin balanced and happy can be quite a tricky endeavor.  Typically, the older we get, the drier we get.  That is certainly true in my case but like a lot of you, I still experience blackheads and blemishes.  For the most part, treating dry skin is exactly opposite of treating acneic skin.  So what’s a girl to do?

I am super nervous about letting my skin get dry.  That tight, scaly feeling that comes with dry skin really freaks me out.  Why?  Because tight, dry skin ages fast.  Oily, well hydrated skin ages slow.  I’m super OK with being a grease bomb because my skin feels supported-does that make sense?  Well, it’s not necessary to be a grease bomb in order to have happy skin.

At the onset of cold weather this season I began using Eminence’s Coconut Milk Cleanser and the Coconut Age Corrective Moisturizer.  I chose this combo because Eminence claims it is not only great for hydrating skin but it also has anti aging qualities as well.  Just to be thorough, my anti aging concerns are the normal wrinkles on the forehead, eyes and laugh lines but what I worry about most is my skin just looking old.  Are you familiar with Vicky from the Housewives of Orange County?  I don’t like to point out people’s flaws ever but I’m going to go ahead with this one, she did have an awful lot to say about my home state of Oklahoma!  She has recently had some work done because her skin has improved but she has sported some not so pretty skin in the past.  Certain times the lighting would be off and the camera would capture the texture of her skin.  Her skin looked unbalanced, bumpy and leathery.   Aging is not just about wrinkles.  Texture plays a huge part in making you look old.

I was on the hunt for products that would really provide not only nourishment to my skin but also help the overall appearance and jumped right in with this duo since Eminence is one of my favorite skin care lines-for example, read HERE, HERE and HERE for more Eminence reviews.

First let me start with the cleanser.  It is very milky as the name suggests-There are no bubbles-it has the texture of a very watered down moisturizer.  It is really gentle and removes eye makeup to some extent-my mascara sticks like glue so I need a bit more to thoroughly remove it.  The cleanser leaves your skin smooth and the exact opposite of feeling stripped.  Plus, it smells just like coconut milk!

The moisturizer is thick but it soaks in immediately.  It immediately makes my skin feel so smooth as well as tight-but tight in the good way!  It works really well under makeup and I never get greasy throughout the day.  All winter my skin has felt very well hydrated.  This is a huge victory for me.  Dry patches have not been a problem nor has that flaky skin look I get when I wear foundation.  I have used a couple other Eminence moisturizer and while I liked them, they weren’t really post worthy.

Eminence Coconut Milk Cleanser and Age Corrective Cream

My Winter Routine:

A.M.-  I use the coconut milk cleanser as soon as I awake.  I follow with a squirt of THIS homemade toner and then finish with the coconut moisturizer.

P.M.- I oil cleanse with THIS cleanser-Read more about that HERE.  Then I tone once again and apply the coconut moisturizer and THIS eye stick.  Go HERE for the eye stick recipe.

I keep it simple and it has worked wonders for my skin.  I seriously can’t get over how soft and smooth my skin is.  I’m not rutty at all and my texture is much more even and smooth.  I even feel decent going to the gym with no makeup.  I clog pretty easily and experienced a couple of tiny zits when I first started using the moisturizer but I think my skin was just adjusting because that hasn’t happened since and I’ve been using these products for about 3 mos. now.

Now for the facts from Eminence:

So, to conclude-I would 100% recommend these 2 products.  Especially the moisturizer.  The texture of my skin is HUGELY improved.   What’s weird is that I had SO MANY blackheads when I first started this and they have cleared almost 100%.  I can’t explain why-this is not a products used to clear skin but something about nourishing my skin with this moisturizer and cleanser plus oil cleansing at night did wonderous things!  Seriously, I have never had skin that looked this smooth and clear, seriously….

I would highly recommend this for all skin types.  I get so dry in the winter that I can’t guarantee it’s a great fit if you are very oily but it is so good with aging skin and texture issues, I feel like it’s worth a try, even if you just use it as a night cream.   I know what is going to work now for curing dry patches and an unexplainable bumpy appearance to the skin.  And just so you know, both products last forever.  My 2 ounce moisturizer is only about 1/2 gone and I’ve been using it religiously for about 3 mos.  My cleanser is probably only 1/2 gone as well.  It’s well worth the money.  I also will add, for those of you worried that the moisturizer might be too thick, Eminence says you can scoop a small amount of moisturizer in the palm of your hand, add a few drops of water and apply.  This will thin it out quite a bit.

As usual-Amazon is just the best when it comes to pricing!  Go HERE for the cleanser and HERE for the moisturizer!

  1. Jennifer how do you feel about Retin-A as opposed to the smaller amounts of retinol found in other skin care products? I have quite a bit of aging under my eye and am starting to use Retin-A a couple times a week to see if that helps.

  2. It was heartbreaking for me to read the following:

    Eminence “Organic” Skin Care
The NOP considers all of their products to be “high hazard” due to their refusal to comply with ingredient disclosure requirements that would permit safety assessment.

The Organic Consumers Association (OCA) has prepared a spreadsheet summarizing “Organic Cheater brand” products and their Hazard Rankings according to the Environmental Working Group’s “Skin Deep” Cosmetic Safety Database.

A couple of brands, Jason “Pure, Natural & Organic” and Nature’s Gate “Organics”, even had some of their fake organic products score in the unsafest “High Hazard” category.

Perhaps even more disturbing, two of the “organic cheater” brands who are the subject of OCA’s Complaint to USDA NOP, have reneged on their signed promise to provide product and ingredient information to Skin Deep so that their products’ safety can be assessed. Those brands are Eminence “Organic” Skin Care and Head “Organics”.

Another two brands, while they have not reneged on any promises, have also decided to not submit product and ingredient information to Skin Deep: Ilike “Organic” Skin Care and Surya Sapien “Organic”.

As noted in the Complaint, all these brands utilize surfactants made in part or entirely from petrochemicals as primary cleansing ingredients, which contain no organic agricultural material whatsoever. Eminence in particular deceptively claims that Alpha Olefin Sulfonate, the primary cleanser in its “Organic Stone Crop Bodywash”, is from a “plant source,” when in fact this cleanser is commercially available only in pure petrochemical form.

Both Nature’s Gate and Eminence do produce a few true USDA NOP certified organic products under their respective brands. However, the vast majority of their product lines are not certified under the USDA’s National Organic Program, because their main cleansing and moisturizing ingredients are generally based on conventional or petrochemical, rather than organic agricultural, material.

    1. Colette-That’s very bad news. I chose Eminence as my go-to brand because I recognize most of the ingredients in many of their products. They offer so many so maybe this only includes a few select products. This is the very reason why started making my own products but making products often comes with little results and with no preservatives you have a very short lived product! I will continue to do more research on what you’ve found. Thanks for sharing!
