Easy Homemade Immunity Shot Recipe w/Ginger & Turmeric (No Juicer Required)

Sharing is caring!

It’s that time of year when the immune system is on overdrive from the holidays, we’re not getting enough sun and bugs and viruses seem to be a constant threat. I don’t know about you but I ain’t got time to get sick. That’s why I’ve started adding an immune booster shot to my daily routine. It’s full of vitamin C, has anti-inflammatory properties and powerful antioxidant properties and I’ve come up with how to make it the easiest way possible, no juicer required. This flu season, boost immunity and improve your overall health by supporting your body with this immunity shot recipe.

I began juicing about 5-6 years ago when my mother handed down her juicer. I instantly knew it was a hit for me because soon after I started juicing carrots, cucumbers, apples and lemons my body started craving juice more and more. One very noticeable perk of juicing was that it curbed my sweet tooth substantially. Fast forward to now and I’ve branched out a bit and started playing with more ingredients like parsley, beets, turmeric and ginger. While this recipe does not require a juicer, a highly recommend looking into one and reaping all the benefits that come from juicing.

The other day my daughters and I were roaming around Target (you know your kids are bored with Christmas break when they want to go to Target for fun) and my oldest daughter asked if she could get an immunity shot. Target has a large variety of little 2 oz. “shots” in the produce section all marked for a specific “boost”. We all 3 got an immunity shot and all agree we felt better afterwards. I decided to take to my juicer and make our own since they were $4 a pop! Upon concocting a recipe, it dawned on me that you could make a very effective immunity shot quite easily without a juicer or even a high-speed blender. I wanted to explore this further and am sharing with you how to make your own shot for a fraction of the cost of buying one.

Health Benefits of Ginger:

Ginger is best known for it’s effect on digestive health but has been studied and tested for many other benefits. Fresh ginger root can help balance blood sugar levels, is a great source of antioxidants which help strengthen the immune system, can offer nausea relief, improve gut health, reduce body weight and may help to lower blood pressure. Ginger also has strong antibacterial properties and may be helpful when fighting infections

Health Benefits of Turmeric:

The turmeric root is widely used in India not only in cooking but for it’s health benefits. The most well known benefit of turmeric is it’s ability to calm and reduce chronic inflammation. It’s ability to fight free radicals in the body can be very beneficial when working towards a healthy immune system. Turmeric can also lead to increased heart health. Turmeric may play a beneficial role in anti aging which makes sense when you factor in it’s ability to lower inflammation which is one of the leading causes of aging.

The main compound in turmeric is cucurmin. The body’s absorption of curcumin is poor so it’s a good idea to add a pinch of black Add pepper to any consumption of turmeric to enhance absorption.

Health Benefits of Fresh Lemon:

Lemons are an excellent source of vitamin C. One peeled lemon will give you 60% of the daily recommended amount of vitamin C! Vitamin C has been known for it’s antioxidant levels which help to fight inflammation. It also encourages the production of elastin and collagen in the skin. Vitamin C can improve heart health, help prevent kidney stones, improve digestive health and can help prevent anemia by helping your body absorb iron more efficiently

Making an Immunity Shot w/o a Juicer or Blender:

First, you must choose your base liquid. My two recommendations are orange juice or pineapple juice. You must ensure that you find the purest form of either meaning that there are no additives. Because both oranges and pineapple have quite a thick skin, organic is preferred but not a must. You can also consider grapefruit juice or even pear juice. Just make sure to find the highest quality with NO SUGAR added! That’s key.

After choosing the base for your shot, it’s time to prepare the 3 powershouse ingredients that are going to do all the work. Those 3 ingredients are ginger, turmeric and lemon. Ginger is now typically found in frozen form. I have found ginger cubes at both Target and Trader Joe’s. I have opted for turmeric powder when not using a juicer. Make sure it’s organic. Fresh turmeric will require a juicer or a high-powered blender then a fine mesh strainer. Lemons can easily be juiced with a hand held lemon juicer and give a BIG BOOST of vitamin C to your shot. All three of these ingredients can easily be found at your local grocery store.

Optional Ingredients & Substitutions:

Instead of orange juice, feel free to use any fruit juice you prefer. Pineapple is a great option as is apple juice. Just make sure there is no added sugar in your juice!!

I will warn you, turmeric is a special taste and that’s putting it lightly. The first time you make these, if you are bent on this shot tasting good, you might lessen the amount of turmeric you use. Since it’s a shot, just shoot it and deal with the taste is my advice. My husband would not agree, lol.

I add coconut water in order to cut back on the sugar content. It’s also excellent at rehydrating the body. Check out my Homemade Electrolyte Drink Recipe

Other immunity shot optional ingredients are a pinch of cayenne pepper or regular pepper. You may also add a dash of cinnamon. Believe it or not, fresh garlic is a great additive to boost immunity. Raw honey can also be added for healing benefits. If making larger batches of liquid to freeze, I recommend adding 1/2 coconut water to 1/2 juice in order to cut back on sugar content.

What You’ll Need to Make Immunity Shots:

  • 1 cup of Orange Juice (about 2 oranges)
  • 1/2 cup Coconut Water
  • 1/2 cup of Lemon Juice (about 2 lemons)
  • 20 *Cubes of Frozen Ginger (each cube is a teaspoon)
  • 3 tsp. Organic Turmeric Powder
  • Pinch of Black Pepper
  • Pinch of Cayenne Pepper (optional)
  • 2 oz glass containers
  • Jar or Pyrex measuring cup w/ a spout

*Ginger cubes are in the frozen section of Target and Trader Joe’s. My guess is they can be found at most grocers.

Immunity Shot Recipe w/Ginger & Turmeric (No Juicer Required)

Yield: 16 oz.
Prep Time: 15 minutes
Total Time: 15 minutes

Adding an immune booster shot to your daily routine is a great way to ward off illness. It's full of vitamin C, has anti-inflammatory properties and powerful antioxidant properties and I've come up with how to make it the easiest way possible, no juicer required.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup of NO SUGAR ADDED orange juice (about 2 oranges)
  • 1/2 cup coconut water
  • 1/2 cup of lemon juice (about 2 lemons)
  • 20 cubes ginger (each cube is a teaspoon)
  • 3 tsp. turmeric powder
  • Pinch of black pepper
  • Pinch of cayenne pepper

Instructions

    1. Pour all ingredients into a jar or a 4 cup Pyrex measuring cup.
    2. Thoroughly mix with a spoon.
    3. Pour into ice cube trays, bottles or shot glasses.
    4. Remember to give each shot a good shake before drinking. The ingredients will settle on the bottom.

Notes

  • You can find cubes of frozen ginger in the freezer section of most grocery stores.
  • This recipe makes 8 2oz. shots.
  • I recommend that you make immunity booster shots in bulk, freeze them in glass containers w/ lids or even ice cube trays. This way it's a grab and go situation and a much higher chance you'll be consistent.
  • Drink them within 5-7 days. The longer you wait, the less effective they will be.
  • Drink daily for best results.

I’m also including a recipe if you have a juicer or high powered blender and would prefer to use it.

Immunity Shot Recipe w/ a Juicer or Blender:

  • 2 lemons peeled
  • 2 oranges peeled
  • 4 thumb size pieces of turmeric
  • 4 thumb size pieces of ginger
  • 1 cup coconut water
  • pinch of cayenne pepper
  • pinch of black pepper

*If using a blender, make sure it is a high powered one. Add all ingredients to the blender, blend thoroughly then strain through a cheese cloth or sifter.

As I stated earlier, I LOVE my juicer and juicing has been a game changer for my health and daily lifestyle. I have the Nama J2 Cold Press Juicer. The way it’s made saves so much time since you are able to load all your fruits and veggies in a receptacle rather than slowly and individual add them. It is pricey but the quality of the machine as well as the quality of the juice is top notch. I have had mine for almost 5 years with no issues and juice almost daily.

1 Serving Immunity Shot Recipe:

  • 1 apple
  • 2 lemons, peeled
  • 2-inch piece ginger
  • 2-inch piece turmeric
  • ⅛ teaspoon cayenne, whisked into juice
This recipe comes from the Nama recipe section of their website.

Immunity Shot Storage Options:

I personally make a batch, fill my bottles and store them in the fridge since I have several people in my household drinking them and they have no chance of going bad. If you’d prefer to freeze your shots, you can do that as well. Pouring your batch into ice cube trays is an easy way to do this.

Two ice cubes equal 1 oz and a typical shot is 1.5 oz. so 3 cubes would equal 1 shot. You could also store your shots in glass bottles and freeze if you’re on the go. Simply grab a bottle on your way out the door then drink it once it has thawed. This would be a great addition to a healthy home-packed lunch!

Taking immunity shots is a great way to boost your chances of not falling ill this winter season. This immunity shot recipe is the easiest way you can make these power packed drinks from home without spending tons of money by buying them at the store. While these shots aren’t the best tasting drink, they are incredibly health and beneficial for your overall health!
