Tamanu oil is an oil we should talk about. It’s a lesser known oil then jojoba or rosehip oil but it is said that tamanu oil has qualities that allow it to be very effective for healing damaged skin. Many people suffering from acne have found great relief and clearing when using tamanu oil! Let’s dive into all the amazing skin benefits of tamanu oil!
Tamanu oil is an amazing tool when it comes to healing and regenerating the skin! It is antineuralgic, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antibiotic, and antioxidant. There is much emphasis on it’s anti inflammatory property which can be extremely helpful in all skin conditions, especially acne and eczema. Because of it’s anti inflammatory talents, many sufferers of joint and muscle pain have found relief using it topically!
Tamanu contains a fatty acid called calophyllic acid, and an antibiotic lactone and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agent called calophyllolide. These and other components of tamanu oil, including anti-inflammatory coumarins, account for some of the oil’s beneficial activity. Impressive, huh?!
Because of tamanu’s ability to regenerate damaged skin and accelerate cell turnover, it is a great anti aging oil. It contains a large amount of fatty acids which help to smooth and plump the skin. It also contains a large amount of antioxidants which we know helps combat the pesky free radicals that are causing aging in the skin!
The reviews on this oil are almost 100% positive. Many people find it helpful with healing acne much more quickly. Some say it’s the perfect moisturizer and others say it is a bit drying. It all comes down to trying it for yourself.

My Personal Experience with Tamanu Oil:
I’m really enjoying using this oil. My skin is dry yet I deal with a lot of texture issue caused from blackheads and congestion in my skin. I do find that this oil absorbs really quickly which is so nice. It’s not drying so far for me, but it’s definitely not an oil I could use as a moisturizer. I do have to apply a moisturizer once the tamanu soaks in. I have not had any blemishes lately so I can’t speak personally about accelerated healing. I do plan to use this oil as a spot treatment at the first signs of any blemishes!
My Tamanu Oil of choice is from Mountain Rose Herbs-Their tamanu oil is cold pressed, unrefined and organic. Basically it’s the purest form of this oil. According to MRH Tamanu Oil “has been thoroughly researched, and the conclusive evidence on its ability to heal damaged skin is overwhelming. Its benefits are notable for scarring, stretch marks, minor cuts and abrasions, rashes, sores, and much more. It can be used directly on the skin or mixed within formulations.”

I just placed an order for the Tamanu lip balm. I can’t wait to try it! So interested and surprised by how beauty oils have helped me, even with acne prone skin.
I’m glad!! It’s a very neat oil-I like how it absorbs so quickly on my skin! Your lip balm will be sent out in the morning! Oh and I forgot to mention this but I’ve been applying this lip balm to my cuticles and hang nails for pain relief and faster healing-it’s really helping!
This oil has been one I have never explored, but your mention of it healing stretch marks was exciting to hear! Do you have other recommendations or formulas for what to take to heal stretch marks? I have tried many products & oils to no avail. Thanks for any input on this!
Arti-I have a recipe for stretch mark oil-It has rosehip which is supposed to help fade and heal scaring and stretch marks. I also have a belly butter. Helichyrsum is an essential oil that is also very helpful, it’s just very expensive.
I absolutely love Tamanu Oil! I’ve been using it for a few months now, and I definitely plan on continuing to use it. I make my own ‘conditioning oil’ (moisturizer) by mixing equal amounts of Avocado Oil and Rosehip Seed Oil, and 1 TBSP of Tamanu Oil. It’s such a great oil combo!
That’s an awesome recipe-I’m going to try that!!
Thanks for your little combo recipe Melinda! I absolutely love Tamanu and what it has done and is doing for my acne prone skin! It has been the reason my cystic acne and scars started clearing! I now only get tiny breakouts that are gone after I moisturize with this in some rose hip seed oil. I got one ounce though, for $12.99 so I am definitely ordering from MRH’s!
Hello, do you have a recipe for a salve for acne and eczema? Thanks!
Meishan-Hi! I do have a acne salve-Find it HERE. I haven’t done much with eczema-I really need to though.
I love those oils as well as Jojjoba Oil and Apricot Kernal Oil…I am planing on trying your recipe above as well for my sensitive skin since I feel Tamanu Oil is awesome and penetrates well into the skin!
This looks awesome! Just wondering – have you ever subbed the olive oil out with a different oil? Wondering if coconut oil would work here instead?
Bridgette-I have-I like jojoba the best but coconut oil would probably work-it could be tricky since coconut oil likes to solidify though.
Can I mix Tamanu Oil with a Vitamin C Serum?
Joyce-You can’t because Oil won’t mix with vitamin C since it’s water based.
