I’m always on the hunt for natural perfumes. They are few and far between and when you do find a natural company, it’s a fluke if you find a scent you would wear. Herb & Root is a natural company out of Austin Texas that uses oils and botanicals to create scents inspired by exotic locations.
Herb and Root sent me 3 of their 6 fragrances. They sent me 2 bath/body oils as well as a roll-on perfume. First things first-the scent. I don’t think I can do these scents justice using words. Maybe if I could perform and interpretive dance for you, you would get more of an idea how special these fragrances are but my dance would be a very different kind of special and not at all help you understand how unique these products really are!
Oils, as you probably have noticed are my thing lately. When I first started DIYing beauty products I skipped over face and body oils because I felt like they just didn’t do anything for my skin. It felt as if they weren’t penetrating my skin and they were too simple-I wanted to make lotions! Now I realize, I was using too much oil and that was why I felt greasy afterwards. These days my face and body much prefer an oil over a lotion so when these beautiful oils came in the mail, I was excited! These bath oils are lovely when used in a a warm bath. I also like to reapply them once I get out of the bath for even more moisture that leaves my skin so soft and smooth. For triple duty, they also hydrate the hair and tame fly aways!
Hydrating your skin is so vital. Dry skin ages much quicker then moisturized and nourished skin. Getting in the habit of using a body/face oil is one of the best things you can do for your skin.

Herb and Root sent me Tiare Tahiti, Fuji Musume and Attar of Rose. Each fragrance is reminiscent of a region of the world and each has it’s own special history behind it.
My absolute favorite fragrance is Fuji Musume which is Japanese in origin and means Wysteria Maiden. It includes scents of lemon and violet wysteria. It’s light and fresh and very summery. Otto Rose (which comes with a rose bud in the oil :)) smells rich and dark with hints of sandalwood intermingled with rose. It’s origin is India. Tiare Tiahiti is from the French Polynesian islands and is tropical and feminine.
- Eau de Provence–lavender, jasmine and bergamot
- Flores da Amazonia-passionfruit, pineapple, water lily
- Princess of Nerola-orange blossom, amber, vanilla
These scents are so potent that you can really enjoy the scent hours after applying it. This is not common when using natural perfumes.
Again, I highly recommend these oils. The quality if amazing and the scents are so special. Once I finish with my oils, I’m excited to try the other 3, Eau de Provence in particular!
