Why Take A Sea Salt Bath?
The biggest benefit of taking salt baths is DETOX. The skin is actually a detoxing organ like the liver, gut and kidneys! By taking salt baths, toxins can actually be purged from the skin that are in the body! Salt is also very high in minerals, magnesium in particular. Most of us are magnesium deficient and that can manifest itself by causing sleep issues, constipation and even depression. The skin can absorb magnesium more efficiently then it can when ingesting supplements so salt baths are an excellent way to reap the benefits of minerals. Salt baths can also improve the appearance of the skin by purging the pores, cleansing the skin and revving up circulation!
- Promote relaxation
- Promote better sleep
- Relieve water retention
- Soothe sore muscles
- Balance skin
- Increase circulation
- Accelerate wound healing
- Improve skin hydration
Benefits of Seaweed:
First and foremost, seaweed helps reduce the appearance of cellulite!! Seaweed is extremely high in minerals, mainly iodine. It is also high in vitamin C, pantothenic acid, zinc and copper. It’s high in Vitamin K which can reduce the appearance of broken capillaries and dark spots. Other minerals that are in seaweed are riboflavin, folate, calcium, iron, magnesium and manganese. If you experience body breakouts, it’s great for clearing and calming the skin. Go HERE for more on seaweed.
Benefits of Spirulina:
Loaded with antioxidants, your skin will look radiant after soaking in spirulina! It also alkalizes the skin and encourages detox. Like seaweed, it is highly antibacterial and can ease inflammation. Go HERE for my spirulina/probiotic face mask and HERE for a spriulina smoothie!
Benefits of Chlorophyll:
Chlorophyll is great for speeding up healing! Plus it gives the salt more green color but will not tint your skin!
Detox Mermaid Bath Salt:
- 2 cup Sea Salt (find it HERE)
- 2 cup Epsom Salt (find it HERE)
- 6 tbsp. Seaweed Powder (find it HERE)
- 3 tbsp. Spirulina Powder (find it HERE)
- 3 tsp. Chlorophyll (find it HERE)
- 60 drops Lavender Essential Oil (find it HERE)
*If you were to leave out any ingredients, I would leave out chlorophyll and spirulina. Both are beneficial, especially spirulina but the seaweed and salt are the real stars of the recipe! Spirulina stinks to high heaven so if you’re using it, lavender is a MUST. Also, feel free to use all epsom, all sea salt or even add in Himalayan salt. They are all very efficient in detoxing and delivering nutrients to the body.
How To Use:
- In order to reap the detox and beautifying benefits of a salt soak, you need to soak for at least 20-40 minutes in 1-2 cups of salt.
- Bring a large glass of cold water with you to the bath. Salt baths can dehydrate. Add lemon for added nutrients and detox!
- Salt baths can make you drowsy. Be careful while getting out of the bath and plan your bath before bed.
This salt bath is so full of much needed and beneficial minerals. I will warn you, it does turn your water green (which is neat!) but because the spirulina does not dissolve well, it can leave a ring around the tub if you don’t rinse your tub after you’re done.
I love the look of this bath salt! I think it would make the cutest gift! You could also add a couple of small sea shells on the top of the salt!

You had me at mermaid! I’m totally a sucker for anything mermaid related. But this really does sound amazing. Already have most of the ingredients…think I am going to have to order the seaweed powder!
Elizabeth! Yes, get seaweed powder. It’s amazing for cellulite.

Thanks for sharing! Does it keep long?
Vanessa-I would say this particular bath salt should keep about 2 months. I could be wrong but since we are adding chlorophyl, it could shorten the shelf life.
