Yeast Overgrowth & Detox Made Simple!

Plexus Probio 5 and Bio CleanseI’ve mentioned in about a dozen other posts that I have digestive issues.  I’m a big advocate of probiotics and focus on eating as clean as I can.  I also drink a ton of water and exercise.  Seems like I should be good to go, right?  Wrong.  I’m bloated, constipated and uncomfortable 80% of the time.  Not to mention it’s pretty normal to get asked the question, “when are you due?”.  I always am thankful for my stomach issues though because by wanting relief so desperately it has put me on a journey of better choices and from that started a snowball effect into skin care and supplements.

So I made this friend a few months ago who is a huge advocate for Plexus.  If you don’t know what Plexus is, let me sum it up really quick.  Plexus is a company that offers an array of supplements for optimal health.  They are a network marketing company that has grown by leaps and bounds in the last few years.  Chances are, you have a Facebook friend posting on the daily about how Plexus has changed their life.

What got me interested in Plexus was all the talk about gut health.  I believe that all health comes from a balanced gut.  Our guts are prone to growing harmful fungus like yeast.  Due to diets high in processed foods and too much sugar, taking antibioitics, stress and birth control-we are all subject to yeast, or fungus in the gut.  The repercussions of a fungus overgrowth are immense.

Symptoms of Yeast Overgrowth:

  • Seasonal allergies
  • Acne
  • Depression
  • Sugar/carb cravings
  • Eczema, psoriasis, hives, and rashes
  • Brain fog (including ADD and ADHD)
  • Autoimmune diseases such as Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, rheumatoid arthritis, ulcerative colitis, lupus, scleroderma, lyme disease and multiple sclerosis
  • Digestive issues-constipation, diarrhea, gas, indigestion and bloating
  • Yeast infections including jock itch
  • Urinary tract infections
  • Chronic fatigue syndrome
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Low energy
  • Dandruff

So what now?  Most of us have several of the above symptoms and while taking a probiotic is going to increase good bacteria in the gut-it’s not going to aggressively get rid of yeast.  This is a misconception I think a lot of us have, myself included.  A probiotic is not enough.  You also need an anti fungal treatment as well as something to make sure you are going to the bathroom regularly to rid your body of the dead, toxic yeast.  Once I started researching the Plexus products aimed at gut health, this light bulb went off.  I have been on a probiotic for years, and while I sometimes see some relief, it’s fleeting.  I was feeling as if my probiotic was totally pointless.  It probably wasn’t, it just wasn’t enough for someone suffering from yeast overgrowth symptoms.

I take 2 products for gut health.  The first is Pro-Bio 5.  This is triple threat of a probiotic.  Not only does it fill your gut with 5 powerful strains of good bacteria, it also contains enzymes which help digestion and breakdown yeast.  It also contains the powerful anti fungal, grape seed extract.  Grape Seed Extract is anti fungal, anti inflammatory, anti-allergenic and an antihistamine.  It is also 20 times stronger of an antioxidant then vitamin C!  This anti fungal is no joke.  Pro-Bio 5 also contains B6 which is essential for red blood cell metabolism as well as increasing the amount of oxygen in the blood.  Fungus cannot survive in an oxygen rich environment!  Pro Bio 5 also contains vitamin C which is a potent antioxidant and helps support the immune system.

Because this probiotic is so strong, I suggest starting out with 1 probiotic before bed.  To maintain a healthy gut, Plexus suggests taking 2 before bed (on an empty stomach).  Since I know I have a yeast problem, I’m building up to 4 probiotics.  I will be taking 2 in the morning and 2 at night.  Once my gut is healthy, 2 probiotics a day will be sufficient.

The second product I take is called, Bio-Cleanse.  This is a supplement high in magnesium which is vital for optimal health.  Basically, this supplement helps you go to the bathroom so you aren’t killing yeast faster then your body can get rid of it.  Bio Cleanse also supports and further kills toxins in your body.

Plexus BioCleanse oxygenates and energizes your body while detoxifying and cleansing wastes, pathogens and plaque in the gastrointestinal tract, colon, arteries, blood, etc. As the ingredients in BioCleanse reaches the stomach’s acid environment and continues into the bloodstream, the vitamin C (ascorbic acid) and bioflavonoid complex break the magnesium peroxide bond causing a  softening of intestinal arterial plaque killing pathogenic microbes throughout the body. These ingredients further breakdown into oxygen which continues to purify and energize all the cells in the body. As the liquefied plaques and dead pathogens move toward leaving the body, the magnesium creates a colon flushing reaction, increasing bowel activity and preventing re-absorption of the toxins.

Bio Cleanse cleanses the entire gastro-intestinal tract and arteries as well as enhances weight loss.  Due to vitamin C in the product, it also supports existing collagen as well as encourages new production!  This supplement also oxygenates and energizes the entire body making the body no longer a prime environment for yeast to thrive.

Plexus suggests you take 2-4 Bio Cleanse pills a day.  I take 2 with my Pro Bio 5 before bed and 2 in between breakfast and lunch.

My Personal Experience:

When I first began taking the Pro-Bio 5, I experienced bloating and discomfort.  This lasted for about 3 days.  Around this time, the Bio Cleanse seemed to kick in and I started going to the bathroom more.  However, I am experiencing a very loose stool but have been told that once my gut health improves the loose stools will become healthier.  After those initial 3 days, I could tell I was de-bloating and I began experiencing a much smaller tummy.  I could tell that I was flatter and less hard and round.  When I  lay down, my stomach looks super thin-normally when I lay down, my stomach doesn’t lay down too!  I also feel good.  No gas or that constipated, heavy feeling.

I also am experiencing what’s called die-off.  While my stomach looks and feels great, I got a rash on my neck and arms.  My skin is itchy all over.  I was getting occasional headaches and nausea.  For one day I sneezed and blew my nose constantly.  I’ve randomly experienced back pain as well.  I’ve also been extremely tired by about 3 to the point that I’m taking cat naps-something I never do!  I have other symptoms too but I’ll spare you the details!   Die off is a good thing though.  It means that the yeast is leaving your body.  It’s annoying and gratifying at the same time.  Die off has not been terrible and so worth the way my stomach feels.  Plus, die off doesn’t last forever.  It all depends on how much yeast your body has.

These supplements contain minimal ingredients and are made in such a way that your body can efficiently absorb them.  This is not the case with the majority of vitamins and supplements on the market today.  I suggest trying these 2 products if you are experiencing any of the symptoms of yeast overgrowth.  To be experiencing so much die off as well as such relief with my stomach issues just amazes me.

UPDATE: Over 6 mos. after writing this post I am still using Pro-Bio 5 and Bio Cleanse.  However, I have found that Bio-Cleanse is not a sufficient magnesium supplement and I take magnesium in addition to bio-cleanse.  I also only take 2 Pro-Bio 5s and 2 Bio-Cleanse in the evening before bed.  I continue to experience improved regularity.  I experienced die-off for 2 months.

Game changer for me too! Since I had my first boy I struggled with constipation. I took a probiotic before plexus, but I did not feel the difference at all! I started probio5 and cleanse and within a week I could tell the difference! And you know what? 3 months in my dandruff was gone! Been struggling with that since puberty! The gut connection is fascinating and so often the missing piece for so many like me:) Thank you for sharing!

Bibi-So glad you have reversed constipation and dandruff, that’s amazing! It is so fascinating! It’s what’s getting me through die-off because I know it’s working! I can’t wait to reap the full benefits once my gut heals!

Life changing supplements!!! For YEARS, I was constipated and didn’t know it!! If you don’t eliminate your bowels at least 2 times a day, you’re constipated…but no one ever tells you that.
I’m finally regular, have more energy than ever (I stay home with my two kids and homeschool), my cravings are finally under control AND I’m making enough to pay for Plexus for the 3 of us. 😊

Catherine-that’s awesome! I’m excited to have found these products! I’ve tried so many probiotics but none of them addressed the yeast! It’s so genius to put an anti fungal in with the enzymes and good bacteria!

My husband has severe gut health issues. Doc put him on antibiotics and pain meds. It made the symptoms go away for a time. But the symptoms would always come right back after he finished the meds. I put him on the Biocleanse and Probio 5. He has not had to return to the doctor or be on the meds.

Jenni, I always appreciate your transparency. I have heard yeast die off sucks and it sounds like you are going through it right now. Would love to hear an update in a month and further out. So happy that you have found products that are working for you!!! I can say from experience that magnesium is extremely helpful at maintaining regularity, plus it is good for so many other things. Thanks for all the info and I’m so happy that you are seeing results!!!

    Hi!

Do either of the supplements risk the Candida adapting so that they aren’t effective? As the candida can do with the prescriptions/anti-fungals? In the past, I’ve heard that they require a rotation so that there’s no resistance built.

Also, are there worries about the Bio-cleanse being habit-forming?

Courtney-I’m not exactly sure. I have heard that you don’t have to take breaks from the probiotic but I personally felt like it didn’t stay as effective after about 3mos. of use. About habit forming-it’s simply magnesium that is making you go to the bathroom so I don’t think it is since magnesium is a good supplement to take. It’s hard to find legit info. on Plexus. I find the people that sell it are overly positive and the people that don’t sell it (on the internet) are usually very skeptical. I keep searching though.

Crystal-Wow, I’m shocked you aren’t experiencing some die-off. I am taking Garden of Life probiotic at the moment. I go back and forth. I find that sometimes a probiotic seems to not work. It’s got so much to do with what you are eating. Starving the candida of yeast and sugar is so hard but it is the most effective way of killing an overgrowth. Good luck!

Hey Jenni, my son is almost 3 weeks into Pro bio 5. He’s 8 and has suffered with eczema since he was 6 months old. After contracting hand, foot, and mouth at 3 1/2 his eczema has been full force. He suffers from asthma, food allergies, and a chemical allergy. I use to use steroid cream on him til I heard about Topical Steriod Addiction. He’s just about 11 months steroid free. It’s been heart breaking watching him suffer for so long. He’s currently at 3 pro bio 5 at night and his skin is freaking out. The constant itch and pain is killing him. It’s been almost a week of the itching/pain. He’s getting blister/pimple like things all over his legs and arms. They are bursting and then he’s oozing. He’s at his wits end. I don’t know how much more he can take. Watching my son go through this and crying. Ugh!!! I just want to know when this will go away and his skin start to heal. After reading your die off lasted so long I’m really nervous and worried. We’re constantly flinging ice packs all over his body. How long did your itchy skin last?

Sara-I’m so sorry to hear about your son. How horrible for you both! Die off is different for everyone but I would bet he is near the end. I’m hoping this is die off and his body is really responding and detoxing. One thing to remember with anti fungals is to drink LOADS of water. I know I wasn’t drinking enough when experiencing die-off. It would speed the process up. Give it a couple more weeks. Hopefully at the end of the die off he will experience much relief long term. Another thing, is he eating dairy and gluten? How about sugar? You should remove these foods one at a time to see if it helps. He has symptoms that point towards a food intolerance, especially dairy. Have you tried coconut oil as a moisturizer? It would speed up healing and it is anti fungal. Lavender essential oil is also anti fungal and could help with itching. I wonder if an oatmeal bath might give him so immediate relief? So sorry-my heart goes out to you and your son!!

I am curious to know how your son is feeling? I hope he has gotten relief, it sounds just awful for both of you i can’t even imagine. Sara, that is too many ProBio5 capsules for your young son, especially at only a few weeks in! If he is having such a strong die-off reaction, he needs to SLOW DOWN the process. Otherwise, the stress he is experiencing will feed the yeast.
      stress= inflammation= acid= illness

Cut down the probiotics for the boy and increase things that will help his body release the toxins gently. Some things that help to release are:
° Warm baths with Epsom salt
      ° Gentle skin drybrushing
      ° Drinking water
      ° Massage
° Sinus rinse (like NeilMed sinus rinse or netipot)
° Playing outside, breathing deep and moving
      ° Eating whole foods

There are other things but this is a good list for someone as young and as in pain as he has been.

The magnesium in Plexus Bio Cleans is magnesium hydroxide, or “Milk of Magnesia.” It’s a laxative for goodness sake. The label on the Pro Bio5 product lists only 5 strains of probiotic, most of which are not the best or strongest that can be obtained through fermented foods or homemade Kefir milk at 1/100th the cost of this Plexus stuff. Homemade Kefir is seven times denser than most probiotics on the market, contains over 56 different probiotic strains, and many yeast strains to fight disease. It also delivers 150 billion CFUs of probiotic per tablespoon, compared to Plexus’ weak 20 billion CFU count, which is probably actually less do the the inferior delivery system of pills to the gut.

Get real, get educated. Stop buying this junk, and start drinking homemade kefir milk, and start eating fermented foods. READ to learn how to get healthy, don’t just listen to your friend who sells Plexus.

Mike! Geez! There’s no need to be condescending and rude! I would delete this comment except that you bring up some good points. While I don’t believe Plexus products are the best supplements, I also don’t believe they are “junk”. Your comment is a bit dramatic.

I’m curious to know the process of homemade kefir. I drink kefir in my smoothie daily but the brand I use isn’t the most natural.

Thanks for this honest review! I am very skeptical of MLM companies and products, but the daily blasting of Plexus-whatnots on social media has me curious.

When you experienced positive results, were you also following a typical Candida diet? I would really love not to need that after having done tons of elimination while breastfeeding for the past year!

Alison-I did not follow a candida diet. I think the Bio Cleanse helped me clear out my system and the probiotic really helped replenish my gut. My FB feed is full of Plexus-lol. I do like these 2 products and would like to try the new Pink Drink but I’m not sold on anything else they offer. And, I do feel the need to supplement a different kind of magnesium when taking BioCleanse.

I am new to this. don’t sell it yet. But is candida cleanse thru Plexus or is that something else?? I have got to get this under control. I had a lady in the health food store who knew all about yeast overgrowth. She told me that if I would stay STICKLY to the Candida diet for 30 days, it would be gone. And she has had customers who have done that, and the customers came back to her and were so thankful! But I am having a hard time doing that. Thank you for the response. Brenda

Brenda-With Plexus, there is an anti fungal (candida cleanse) in the probiotic-Pro-Bio 5. There are also products you can buy where you take supplements that will help kill candida in your system. It’s a great tool to use along side the strict diet. I have heard from people that that diet for 30 days will indeed kill the candida but if you don’t really tighten up your usual habits, it will come back. I highly recommend committing to the diet if you are really having a rough time. It will change your life and probably make it so much easier in the future to make different food choices if you can commit to the 30 days. I understand how you feel though-I have never committed to the 30 day diet-my symptoms don’t plague me terribly so so it’s really hard to make the sacrifice. Good luck!!

I ended up tightening up my eating and got back on the pro bio 5 per my friend who sales it. It has helped so much and I’ve just continued. I’m currently not on the bio cleanse only because I haven’t ordered it-I love it because of how regular it keeps me. My results are dependent on how I eat on a daily basis as well as supplements.
