What’s In My Natural Makeup Bag…

What's in my Makeup BagI’ve had lots of questions about my daily makeup routine.  I am a minimalist-I like to keep it simple.  My husband might argue I keep it a bit too simple!  But, for an everyday look I do have my natural faves packed in my makeup bag!

Tarte’s BB Tinted Treatement 12 hour Primer $35-To be honest, this is what I wear for a foundation.  It’s so amazing.  It gives me a bit of color-I use medium in the summer and light in the winter.  It evens redness and smooths texture.  I love how natural it looks and it leaves me looking healthy and not cakey.  If I need more coverage I will dust bare minerals over the top or use it as a concealer to cover spots when necessary.  It’s got an SPF of 30 and lasts for 12 hours-at least that’s what the tube says-I’ve only worn it for about 8 hours and it looked great by the end of the day!  Seriously, this primer needs it’s own post-it’s so good.

Tarte’s Amazonian Clay 12 hour Blush $26-Holy Moley ladies-I love this blush.  I have a tendency to pile on the blush.  I like color-I wear color in my clothes to try to brighten my skin up and blush gives me an instant boost.  Exposed is a neutral color that looks really dull in the compact but it gives the most natural and healthy glow.  I can pile it on and still look natural-it’s definitely fool proof!

Too Faced Natural Eyes Eye Shadow-$36 was mentioned in my hooded eye tutorial.  This compact is a lot of bang for the buck.  I like to wear colors on my eyes but for an everyday look or even a smokey eye, this pallet goes the distance.  There are cool colors as well as warm, not to mention iridescent for a hint of sparkle.  The matte colors are highly pigmented and work well for a classic look.  I dust a neutral all over the lid, then use the lightest taupe on my brow bone to recede my hooded eye.  The matte light creamy color is great for the brow bone and in between the eyes for a bright look. There are also a couple of matte taupes that I can use to fill in my brow.  Powder in the brow gives the brows a softer, more natural look.

Benefit’s Instant Brow Pencil $20-I use this for a quick fill in of the brows.  I can quickly (and lightly) draw in my arch and extend the “wing” to give a fuller look.  I will say that I bought the medium pencil and it is DARK.  I will not buy the medium again.  I really have to use the spooly side to blend and often end up really rubbing some off because it can be a bit harsh.  If you are light or medium browed, go for the light pencil.

Benefit’s High Brow-$20 I don’t always use this but when I do it gives such a pop of light to the brow bone and inner corners of the eye.

Tarte’s Gifted Mascara-$20- I’ve tried a couple of natural mascaras and basically used them only because I couldn’t find a natural mascara that was better.  It was a real compromise.  This is not.  This mascara gives me a thick look.  Achieving length takes a couple of coats but thickness easily happens with only one coat.  It stays on my lashes and does not smudge under my eye.  I absolutely love it!

I probably don’t rally need to mention much about Tarte’s lip products!  They were worthy of a post all their own!  I do like Sonia Kashuk’s nude lip pencil though.  When paired with Tarte’s gloss or butter lipstick, I have long lasting lips!

What's in my Makeup Bag

So, that’s what has been in my makeup bag for a while now!  All these products besides the Benefit High Brow and brow pencil are tested and approved to be natural and lacking harmful ingredients!

Please comment below with your natural makeup bag picks!  I’m always up for trying new makeup!

  1. Hi Jenni,
I love your site & look forward to your posts! I have really liked reading about your makeup research as I put on some makeup EVERY day & just like you, I feel like they need to be good for the skin & natural! One product I use most every day is a black liquid eye liner (not waterproof). Do you have any suggestions on a good one? It doesn’t need to be waterproof though I would also love to hear your thoughts on a good waterproof liner. For a foundation, I use Jane Iredale in the pure pressed mineral powder. Would you approve of it as a good natural foundation? Thanks for any thoughts you have on this!

    • Thanks so much Arti! I have tried Tarte’s eye liner-I’m not an eye liner girl but I was impressed with how long this lasted on my eye! I will be doing a tutuorial on a 60’s winged look using this liner soon! Here is the link-

      • I meant to get back to you sooner! Thanks for the recommendation on the Tarte eye liner. I looked into it along with some others & will let you know if I find one I like. One more question…What do you think of Jane Iredale’s pure pressed mineral powder foundation? I have been using it for years & am hooked. I love it, but just wanted to know how it ranks in your opinion. I look forward to hearing your thoughts on it!

  2. Jenni,

I found this blog post and couldn’t believe how similar we are when it comes to makeup preference! I LOVE Tarte products. I use the Tarte Amazonian Clay BB Tinted Moisturizer SPF 20, and Tarte Maracuja creamy creaseless concealer (under eyes). I may try out the primer you recommended in the future. The Benefit brow pencil is my go to eyebrow pencil also. I saw someone was asking about eyeliner, and my favorite is Urban Decay’s 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil (I use the black or the Rockstar). Lastly, the most amazing lip moisturizer is Fresh Sugar Advanced Therapy Lip Treatment.

    Thanks for the post! 🙂
