Make your own tinted lip balm!

DIY TInted lip balm

I am super picky with lipstick.  I have so many lipsticks that are too dark that just get shoved in my makeup drawer.  I decided to try adding color to my lip balm recipe by putting my lip stick in the mix and it worked!  The color was subtle but it gave a good shine and a hint of pink that helped brighten me up a bit.  It also dilutes the chemicals in lipstick.  Of course the best thing would be to ditch the lipstick all together but sometimes it’s better to reuse then waste!

I used Rosemary essential oil because it gives a refreshing smell.  I prefer it over Peppermint but you can use any essential oil (or none) that you like!  Also, depending on your lipstick container, you can re-use your lipstick tube!  Just pour it in and let it cool!

Also, find a good variety of tins HERE!

DIY Tinted Lip Balm

  1. May I suggest using iron oxide or mica powder instead of an old lipstick? 🙂

  2. Mica or iron oxide is much healthier for sure. This started out as an experiment and ended up turning out great! I had several lipsticks that were just too dark and I hate to waste so that’s why I wanted to see if I could re purpose my old lipstick. At the least, the lipstick won’t be as toxic since it has been diluted so much! Thanks for the comment! Check out my Team Edward Lip Balm-I pulled out the mica for that one!

  3. Just came across this and I’m a little confused…it seems like the written directions and the label on one of the photos have two different ingredient amounts. which one makes the tinted balm? Thanks! Eager to try this!
