Homemade Peppermint Lip Balm!

DIY Peppermint Lip balm

It’s no secret that I love making lip balms!  My recipes wouldn’t be complete without the tried and true peppermint lip balm recipe!  And for a bonus, you can use a small or large Altoid tin!  They are at every check out aisle.  Plus, they are so cute!  We could all use a “curiously strong” all-natural peppermint lip balm, am I right?!

DIY Peppermint Lip balm

Peppermint Lip Balm

1 TBSP Grapeseed Oil (grapeseed is odorless and doesn’t take away from the peppermint scent) (find it HERE)

1 tsp. beeswax (find it HERE)

1 tsp Shea Butter (optional) (find it HERE)

7 drops of Peppermint Essential Oil (find it HERE)

  1. Fill a medium sized pot half way full with water.
  2. Place a glass pyrex measuring cup in the water and add grapeseed oil, shea butter and beeswax.
  3. Allow to melt.
  4. Remove from heat.
  5. Add peppermint essential oil.
  6. Pour into Altoid tin.

**Beware of the Altoid tin’s hinges.  They are about 1/2 way down the back side of the tin.  If you fill your balm above the hinges your balm will leak out!  It’s a confusing mess, trust me!!**

This is fun and easy and a great gift because everyone likes a Peppermint Lip Balm!  It’s perfect for winter time because the added boost of shea butter will help protect and moisturize your lips like crazy!  This recipe makes enough balm for a small Altoid tin, but beware of the hinges!

DIY Peppermint Lip Balm

  1. Hello!:)
Can I replace peppermint with something else?I don’t like the smell of it.

  2. Do you think this recipe would be able to fit in a chapstick tube like:

I love the tubes because you don’t have to dip your fingers in it. I wonder if your recipe will harden enough for the container.

    Let me know your thoughts.

    • Nikki-Yes you can put my recipes in a tube. I have a couple of balms that are a bit too soft but I don’t believe this one is one of them. If you make it, you might want to let it harden and test it before you pour it into tubes. You can always re-melt and add a pinch more beeswax. Thanks!

      • Thanks

      • the same recipe can be made using vaseline or shea butter ? Because beeswax is kinda to expensive where I stay .

        • Shruti-Beeswax is a must. It’s what thickens up the oils. Vaseline is basically the end result we are trying to achieve with the beeswax minus the yucky toxic ingredients it contains. Shea butter will thicken up your oils but your proportions would have to be figured out. You would definitely use more shea butter then oil. I think you could achieve a really nice lip balm this way but it would take some experimenting!

  3. Do I need the Shea butter or can I leave it out and get the same results?
